The Sauna

A sauna provides a relaxing experience that affects the skin, glands, muscles, blood pressure and the circulatory system and helps to relieve stress. Impurities are cleaned out of the pores in the skin leaving it cleaned and refreshed.

The sauna operates at 85 - 100 degrees c. Contact lenses will dry out and glasses become very hot in the sauna so we recommend that customers do not wear them unless absolutely required.

Take a towel to sit or lie on, this will improve your comfort and keep seating clean for the next bather.

The Thermal suite is a mixed sex area so please respect the modesty of other users. Enter the sauna cabin and sit or lie on a bench at a height where the heat is comfortable for you. The higher benches will be the hottest!

Relax for up to 15 minutes in the dry heat. This will raise the body temperature and start perspiration. If you become uncomfortable leave the sauna and cool down. When you have cooled off, you may return to the sauna for a further 5-10 minutes.

This hot cold cycle may be repeated as many times as the bather wishes, however bathing too long may cause nausea, dizziness or fainting.

You may relax at any time in the lounge area provided for 15-20 minutes enjoying the sensation of your sauna before once again showering. During the session be sure to drink plenty of water to replace the fluids lost due to perspiration.

If at any time you feel unwell please alert a member of staff.

Steam Room

The steam room unlike the sauna produces a wet, humid heat between 40-50 degrees c.
The steam room works in much the same way as the sauna. Heat speeds up the chemical processes in the body and through the skins sweat glands the body rids itself of waste products and toxins.

  • Powerful cleansing of pores
  • Relaxation of mind and body
  • Improvement in circulation and breathing
  • General feeling of well-being
  • Calming of nerves
  • Loosening of tight muscles

By using a cold shower after time in either the sauna or steam room you can complete a unique bathing ritual that offers a complete contrast which stimulates circulation and a feeling of well being enhancing the thermal suite experience.

First Timers

If you are new to the thermal suite or sauna bathing please inform the member of staff who will show you the location of the emergency alarms within the thermal suite, should you get into any difficulties and answer any questions you may wish to ask.

If you have never used a sauna or steam room before don’t over do things. Have a warm shower to thoroughly cleanse yourself and start the heating process. Go into one of the cabins for short spells at a time, say 5-10 minutes then come out and have a cool shower. That’s all there is to it! Feel free to fully relax in the dedicated rest area to complete your experience.
